4 out of 5 stars Beautiful European Style BUT Soft Wood Easily Damaged   August 4, 2010
Auntie JuJu (Louisiana)
I was looking for European style cribs for my twins and decided on this one in Espresso color. They are absolutely beautiful and I have been 100% pleased until now. My twins are almost 11 months old and pulling up and teething. One of them has started knawing on the edge and has made very deep scratch marks in the wood around the top. His mouth is often covered with brown wood dust and it concerns me. I just bought the silicone gummy rail liner and so far it has done the trick.
My older three children also did this on another brand crib of the same color, and it never looked like this. I think the company should apply some type of clear coat to protect the finish. Other than the softness of the wood, I have really loved this crib!! Also great that it comes with the toddler bed conversion rail, that should be taken into account for a little higher price.

4 out of 5 stars Solid, large crib   July 27, 2010

It's easy to assemble with a phillips head screwdriver. The included hardware components all look similar, so it can be challenging to decide which screw goes in which hole. Bonus: there is a misprint in the instructions that asks you to put an overly-long screw in an undersized hole. If you can determine that a 3" screw doesn't fit in a 2" hole, you're probably going to do fine with this. All components fit together tightly. The crib is made of solid wood -- looks like some kind of softwood, maybe pine. There do not appear to be any holes or outcroppings for a baby to get caught upon. The mattress height is adjustable, but the top height seems slightly low. It may be mildly difficult for a shorter person to reach into the crib at its top height and comfortably pick up a prone baby. I haven't taken a tape measure to it, but it appears to conform to US gov't standards for bar spacing, interior dimensions, etc. It certainly feel solid. There does not seem to be any racking or twisting when I apply pressure to its sides. Feet come with smooth plastic pads which haven't yet marred our old wood floors.

5 out of 5 stars Has not been used yet   February 11, 2010

Arrived with hole in box and slight damage to surface of crib, but was not apparent when put together. It was easy to put together and seems very sturdy. Baby has not arrived yet so far it has not been used.

I have a small room for the twins, so these cribs slide together flush to each other and the wall in the corner of the room. Plain but Perfect!

5 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck   October 14, 2009

My wife bought this crib for our second baby recently, even though we were both a little skeptical about buying a crib online "sight unseen". As with most parents, the first baby crib buying experience is filled with countless hours of research, visits to Babys'R'Us and other specialty baby furniture stores, and highlighting through the latest Baby Bargains book. With the second baby, however, its all about convenience of shopping. Since the high reviews of this crib, we decided to give this a try.

The crib arrived in 1 flat carton, a little larger in size than a baby mattress. Upon opening the carton, the contents were well packaged. Most of the pieces (side panels, base) are pre assembled. The finish is a nice dark Espresso in a pleasing tone. As with similarly priced items though, the finish is a little easy to get dinged, so have to be a little careful in the assembly. The assembly instructions are a little sparse but since there are few pieces to assemble, it's easily doable.

Assembly requires attaching the 4 bottom posts to the base using 1 dowel and 1 screw each. Next attach some metal strips to the side walls for the mattress base spring. Each side panel is then attached to the base with 3 dowels and 2 screws and to the adjacent panels with 2 screws. The mattress rest (wire spring base on which the mattress rests) attaches to the walls with 4 screws. That's it, you're done.

The mattress height adjustment has 3 (or maybe 4, can't recall) height levels to progress from infant to toddler stages. The included toddler bed front panel is a great must have to extend the use of this crib.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Take heed that the words "convertible" for cribs can mean one of 3 things. It can either mean that a crib can be modified to have a lower/half front rail for the toddler stages OR that the crib can be converted to a full size bed using the two long sides of the crib OR both options are available. This crib ONLY HAS the first option available of a half height/half length front rail. IT CANNOT BE CONVERTED TO A FULL SIZE BED. Just so you know.

Overall construction/finish is good. Assembly is easy. And the convertible aspect earns this crib a 5 star (bang for the buck) rating in my book.
