Product Description The EcoClassica I is similar to our Classica I mattress in terms of firmness and durability, but the foam is made with plant based materials that replaces much of the petroleum used in the normal manufacturing process of foam. The foam is manufactured in a way that uses less energy and reduces carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Damask cloth sleep surface cover with a wetproof backing. This mattress furthers the commitment form Colgate to create more environmentally friendly goods.

| Customer Reviews: Haven't used yet, but very pleased June 3, 2010 lawguru (midwest) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Our little one hasn't arrived yet, so my review is of the product only, not our child's success on the mattress.
That said, this is an excellent mattress. From what I know so far, I can't stress that enough. We had an old Colgate foam mattress, and decided to go ahead and get a new one, going with this Eco version.
The surface material is greatly improved. It's cloth; it's soft! I like the look and feel of it much more than the older models, but it does require a waterproof mattress pad to avoid staining, so if you don't want to have to buy a waterproof mattress pad, that might be a consideration. The only other noticeable difference is the absence of the little coin-sized side vents that were in our old mattress. I'm not sure why these have been omitted; I imagine they were either a choking hazard, or the new design just doesn't require them.
The Eco Classica seems to be at LEAST as firm as our old Colgate, probably more firm just because the old one had been used for years. It's the same lightweight design, and I couldn't be happier. We looked into getting one of the expensive organic mattresses, but decided on the Eco Classica for three reasons:
(1) Weight. As much as I'm tempted by the organic mattresses, I just do not want to have to fight with a heavy mattress in the middle of the night for sheet changes. It's simply no fun. The Colgate foam mattresses make this an absolute breeze.
(2) Reputation. Everywhere I've looked (Baby Book of Bargains, etc) has recommended the Colgate line of mattresses; they are the oldest crib manufacturer around, are firm enough to be awesome SIDS protection, and just seem generally unstoppable. Finding a somewhat more ecological friendly version f the Colgate classic was a perfect solution for us. We wanted to keep the safety and convenience qualities of a foam mattress, and high density foam just isn't going to be organic.
(3) Mattress pad. We have high-end waterproof organic mattress pads. This means that the baby's sleep surface (organic sheets, organic mattress pad) is going to be organic. I'm not sure if there are any benefits to the baby from an organic mattress itself, if you're just putting something waterproof (and thus rather impermeable) over the mattress. Seems either irrelevant or overkill to make sure the mattress itself is organic if the mattress pad is, and nothing can get through the mattress pad...
One of the best purchases I've ever made! May 12, 2010 tbfh1369 (Dallas, TX) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
As a first-time mom, trying to figure out what to buy and what brands are the most reliable is quite daunting. For crib mattresses, though, it is a bit easier. It seemed that everywhere I looked, all my resources all said the same thing...Colgate is the best brand of crib mattresses.
So I hopped on to Amazon, and noticed that, in addition to the regular Classica mattresses, they were offering the new Eco Classica. Although I am not a die-hard "everything must be organic" kind of mom, I do try to make eco-friendly choices wherever possible. Since the Eco version wasn't much more expensive, I went ahead and purchased it.
PROS:
-It is nice and firm for safety, but not uncomfortable.
-It fits the DaVinci Jenny Lind crib perfectly.
-It is light-weight, which you will appreciate when it comes time to change the sheets.
-Best of all, absolutely no chemical smell out of the box and no off-gassing time needed!
CONS:
-none
Highly recommend this product!!!
No problems with shipping. March 5, 2010 Oliver Chubb (San Francisco, CA United States) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
We have just started using it, but it arrived 2 days after our order. The box was a bit dinged, but the mattress was fine inside. It has no smell and fits the crib perfectly.
great eco-friendly crib mattress February 27, 2010 Borisovich (Maryland, USA.,) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This mattress is very light, but firm - just what you need for an infant. The shell material feels very nice to the touch and looks great too. It fits perfectly into the IKEA Leksvik crib, so there are no issues with potentially getting little fingers stuck in the gaps between the mattress and the sides of the crib.
In Stock or Not? Stop Lying Amazon! February 25, 2010 Jeffrey B. Paul (Westchester, CA USA) 0 out of 33 found this review helpful
This is the 3rd product in a row that I've tried to order from Amazon that has been cancelled. The page here on Amazon still shows the product IN STOCK, yet I get an email from them saying that it "has been canceled because the item(s) you purchased were out of stock." Well, Amazon, which is it? In Stock? Out of Stock? Get your systems straight!
